While we know the intent of the ones that aren't so secret any longer, it's the ones we don't know about--and their intent--that deserve our concern. The only way to "shine the light," to paraphrase you, is if one of their own can no longer keep a secret. Kind of a chicken-and-egg thing.thomasrizzohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00762315714546553945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3135368746376329105.post-20609486206376072342013-01-20T08:11:23.093-08:002013-01-20T08:11:23.093-08:00Not many folks write about the "secret" ...Not many folks write about the "secret" societies, because most of them today ARE exclusionary and most not for a good or civil purpose. The "secret" purpose of these societies, I think, is to work against acceptance and tolerance, to undermine policies that support "all people are created equal." So for you to shed some light on the secrecy of some societies is to be commended. If light were to be shone on most of the secret societies and/or their secret intent, there would be less bullying, less negativity (I believe anyway). I really enjoyed reading this interview and article. Thank you for your words.Jan Houglandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00253192243976154166noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3135368746376329105.post-83745792363610764012013-01-19T14:19:41.055-08:002013-01-19T14:19:41.055-08:00Well, as least your club was more gender-inclusive...Well, as least your club was more gender-inclusive than ours. The idea of secret societies can be scary, depending on their purpose and from whom they are hiding. But, then, as a friend remarked recently, "I don't want to know. Safer that way." Hmmm...maybe he has a point. thomasrizzohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00762315714546553945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3135368746376329105.post-67058653147653487702013-01-19T14:07:29.421-08:002013-01-19T14:07:29.421-08:00Glad you like, Cheryl. We fancied ourselves as some king of spies (what we were spying for, I don't know...)LOL We didn't have a real clubhouse, but we had our rules! Of course, anyone could join--girl or boy--since we were mostly girls. I find the secret societies of the world fascinating, not just in their rules and procedures but in their purpose. To think that there are societies of people devoted to these distinct purposes that they would go to the depths of ritual and belief that they do is amazing, and really kind of scary. Thanks so much for this interesting post--I really enjoyed it.Cheryl Piersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18116526340220274282noreply@blogger.com
